Important Visitor Guidelines
Dress Code
Strictly traditional wear. Men: Dhoti/Pyjamas (no shirts for inner sanctum). Women: Saree, Salwar Kameez. Western clothing is not permitted inside.
Electronics Banned
Mobile phones, cameras, and leather items are strictly prohibited inside the temple premises. Lockers are available outside the temple.
Agnitheertham First
Tradition dictates taking a dip in the Agnitheertham (sea shore near the temple) before entering the temple for the sacred 22 Theertham (holy well) bath.
The Sacred 22 Theertham
Ramanathaswamy Temple has 22 holy wells (Theerthams) within its premises. Bathing in these sacred wells is believed to wash away sins and bring salvation. The water in each well is said to have different medicinal properties and temperatures.
